Carbon Monoxide or CO is an odorless, colorless, tasteless, heavier-than-air gas that is deadly when present in moderate to high concentrations. Carbon Monoxide is produced as a byproduct of combustion and can be generated by any fossil fuel (gas, oil, wood, coal and propane). Background levels of CO are usually in the 1 to 3 PPM range. High levels of this cumulative poison can be dangerous and deadly. Even low levels can cause brain and other vital organ damage in unborn infants with no effect on the mother.  Since most homes have some form of fossil fuel combustion source it is highly recommended that every home should have at least one CO monitor per floor.
