Zoned Temperature Control
For most homeowners the term “zoned system” or “zoning” is a process that is somewhat foreign to many individuals. Zoning can be a very effective method in eliminating hot spots and cold spots in the home as well as eliminating the problem of having the second floor or upper levels of the home be to hot in the summer or too cool in the winter.
The Comfort Zone systems installed by Bassett Services is a residential and light commercial zone control system that consists of a control panel and a number of zone dampers and thermostats (up to 9, depending on the number of zones required). The system is designed to eliminate the 8-12 degree temperature difference that exists between upstairs and downstairs in most two story homes, or between one end and the other in ranch-style homes. The system will also improve overall space comfort and lower operating costs.
Sequence of Operation
Comfort System allows a single heating/cooling unit to have up to 9 separate zones. Each zone is controlled by its own space thermostat and motorized zone damper. If any of the zone thermostats call for heating of cooling, the zones not calling for heating or cooling will have their dampers driven closed, and the zone (or zones) calling will have its damper remain open. The heating or cooling equipment will also be brought on at the same time. When all thermostats are satisfied, the heating or cooling equipment turns off and all zone dampers will return to the open position to allow for continuous air circulation.
If you consider a zoning system for your home you should also consider using a variable speed air handler or furnace. For more information on zoning please go to the Jackson Systems link.
