Ventilation

Builders are constructing tighter homes. Energy efficient windows and doors with double weather stripping are being installed in both new homes and older homes that are being remodeled. Insulation is thicker and the use of airtight vapor barriers is more prevalent. Better caulk is sealing cracks and other potential air leaks. As a result, we now have homes that have little or no air exchange and pollutants and contaminants are being trapped inside.

The introduction of small amounts of outside, filtered air can make a significant difference in the comfort level in your home or office. While it is important to consider the introduction of outside air it is also important to control the amount of air introduced and control when you bring the air into the home or office. This can be accomplished by using a variety of ventilation control systems that utilize an electrically controlled air damper and a temperature/relative humidity set point controller. The Aprilaire Ventilation Control System is well suited for this process. It offers separate ventilation and cycle time adjustments. It measures outdoor temperature to stop ventilation at extreme cold and hot outdoor temperatures. It measures indoor relative humidity and will prevent home from exceeding 60% RH.

Note: Outside air is not necessarily fresh air. You should always filter the outside air prior to entry into the home, office or through the HVAC system. For more information on the Aprilaire Ventilation Control System please go to the following link: www.aprilaire.com.
