Carbon Monoxide or CO is an odorless, colorless, heavier than air gas that is deadly when present in moderate to high concentrations (15 PPM and higher). Carbon Monoxide is produced as a byproduct of combustion and can be generated by any fossil fuel (gas, oil, wood, coal and propane). Background levels of CO are usually in the 1 to 3 PPM range. Levels above 15 PPM can be dangerous and deadly. Since most homes have some form of fossil fuel combustion source it is highly recommended that every home should have at least one CO monitor per floor.
